The subdued tones of an evening air

after a summer’s rain – gold-yellow

green-amber – shed with their

water-drops a colour tinged and mellow.

So too a soul after the summer’s

heat and the unsuspected rain –

two conflicting forces set

against weaken nature make it more mellow,

make it give out the true beauty enchained –

is richer thus for sorrow met.
